Sax Lesson - Bebop Scales (Paul Williamson - tenor sax) Learn to play saxophone and sax technique.

Paul Williamson explains the uses of bebop scales in jazz improvisation. In this video, Paul’s first post for Digital Pill, he describes the construction of bebop scales, jazz articulation, the use of a metronome and how bebop scales place the chord tones firmly ON the beat to create an "inside" sound in improvisation

Sax lesson/solo 2-How to bebop & "squeal" high notes w/ vibrato Read description! James Graff Alto

PLEASE READ THIS FOR THE LESSON!! Please ask me ANYTHING about music (or magic)!! Sax solo (and lesson) by James Graff at Wildes Irish Cafe in Tartu, Estonia, Europe. The one high note (high concert F…or is it C??) is performed by using a technique I call "fake" altissimo (Italian: "Very high") register playing: you simply touch your lower teeth to the reed and try to find the right spot to sound the note an octave higher (or a fifth or any interval! This is a "harmonic" or "overtone" of the note you are fingering!) - very carefully and gently at first…applying more and more pressure until it is just enough - but never too much pressure as you will damage the reed (in this case it was a 2 1/2 Vandoren…I believe). You then create vibrato much the same way you do when you play normally - except that forwards and backwards motion can be used (and also creates the potential for a much wider vibrato as the distance your teeth are from the tip of the reed determines the pitch of the "squealed" note
